mottle:
To diversify with spots or blotches of a different color or shade.

mulch:
A covering placed on the ground around plants, usualliy made from manure, grass clippings, or leaves. The purpose is to prevent excessive evaporation, erosion, and to enrich the soil.

mutation:
A sudden departure from the parent type, as when an individual differs from its parent in one or more inheritable characteristics.
