Abstract

"The Spirit and The Soil" was organized by the Carlton Trail Regional Economic Development Authority (REDA) to put the dynamic history of this region on the internet.

Information from the Humboldt and District Museum, Tourism and Special Events, and St. Peter’s Archives was provided to show the rich cultural heritage.

Incredible images and photographs will be prominently displayed. These include the Renaissance-inspired religious iconography of St. Peter’s Cathedral by Berthold von Imhoff. Also included will be historic photographs of farms and buildings from the early days. Present day pictures of Humboldt and area including festivals and buildings will also be available to see.

Historic information on the establishment of St. Peter’s abbey by the Benedictine monks along with other facets of St. Peter’s will be shown. Information on Humboldt and area provided by the Humboldt newspaper, ‘The Humboldt Journal’, will be displayed at this site.

With interesting sites such as St. Peter’s Cathedral, Mt. Carmel, and the impressive German-theme architecture, this area provides for a lot of valuable information that can be used for research or just interest sake.

Because of the rich history of this area, from the establishment of St. Peter’s Abbey to the unique and prolific cultural heritage of the German settlers to the rich agricultural base, this site will provide national and international interest.
