FIRE DESTROYS CREAMERY

The most disastrous fire in Humboldt's history destroyed the Saskatchewan Co-operative Creamery here New Year's Eve. The loss in building and equipment was placed at about $200,000.

The worst previous fire was that at McNab Flour Mills on Jan. 30, 1956.

The fire broke out apparently in the loft of the Egg Grading Station building which adjoined the creamery building at the south. The fire was first noticed shortly after 7:30 p.m.

Paul Ransbottom, manager of the Creamery said it was suspected the fire started in the wiring.

Early in the fire Mr. Ransbottom had records and files removed from the office. By 11:00 p.m. the entire structure was ablaze.

The plant was erected in 1940 -1941 and added to in following years.

J.S. Turnbull, general manager of the Saskatchewan Co-operative Creamery Association Ltd. said Tuesday: "There is no doubt in my mind that we will be rebuilding in Humboldt as rapidly as possible and practical".

Mr. Ransbottom and his staff have temporary accommodation in the former Western Produce Co. Ltd. building now owned by the Ohio Cafe.
