Brusers Limited had its beginning in the summer of 1910. The original building, a 24 ft by 40 ft. frame structure was purchased from Godfried Schaeffer by Clement Bruser and Maurice Cates.

The first ad for the new business, placed in the Humboldt Journal dated Sept. 1, 1910, boasts:
"At Last! At Last! Grand Opening Sale!
Having purchased the stock of Mr. G. Schaeffer, of Humboldt, at a rate on the dollar and having added to it a big, new and up to date stock of General Merchandise, we will throw open our doors for the public: on Tuesday Sept. 6, at 8 a.m. and celebrate our Grand Opening with such a magnificent sale as to make it an event to be remembered in Humboldt.
-Ladies Dress Skirts - reg. $6 to $7.50 now $4.25
-Ladies Fall Overcoat - reg. $9.50 to $15 now $6.75
-Men’s Pants - reg. $2 now $1.25

-Men’s Ties - reg. $0.25 now $0.10
-Suits - reg. $12 to $15 now $9.75
Cates, Bruser and Co. Successors to G. Schaeffer."

Mr. Cates was with the firm for little over a year, then sold his shares to Ben Bruser, who later went into business on his own, and Clement Bruser became the sole owner.

A new building was constructed in 1918 and incorporated in 1923 to Brusers Limited. Shareholders included Dave Gloeckler, Ben Ackerman and Sid Greenberg.

After 55 years in operation, Brusers closed its doors.

The April 1, 1965 edition of the Humboldt Journal ran an ad as follows:
"Like and atomic blast Here is bombastic news for Humboldt. It's the end of an era. Brusers are selling out!"
