On March 28, 1943, a Twin Engine Trainer plane took off from the air base at Dafoe, Sask., with four men aboard; three crew members and a passenger. About four miles east of Humboldt, the plane caught fire leaving a trail of black smoke. The passenger parachuted to safety. When the pilot jumped, the plane was too close to the ground for his parachute to open and he was killed. The other two men died in the crash. |
The plane came down on the farm of Aloys Fahl, who was returning home with a team a sleigh load of straw. The plane hit the ground just in front of the team, killing them and setting fire to the outfit and burning it. Mr. Fahl's clothes caught fire, he was badly burned and spent a long time in hospital recuperating from his injuries. |
