Abbot Michael Ott

Abbot Michael Ott was elected July 23, 1919. He was the first abbotordinary of St. Peter's Abbacy which was established on May 6, 1921 from the Prince Albert Diocese. The Catholic population of the colony had grown to approximately 9,000 by 1920 and the parishes and missions numbered about 24.

Abbot Michael arrived at Muenster on Oct. 10, 1919. In his first sermon in St. Peter's Church on October 12, he stressed the necessity of having a college (high school). The college opened in 1921.

Other initiatives undertaken under Abbot Michael were the beginning of an English Catholic newspaper, the St. Peter's Messenger, in 1923 and the Mount Carmel pilgrimage, starting in 1922.

Abbot Michael resigned on Aug. 7, 1926. He died on Feb. 15, 1948.
