Folk Art

The third component of the Humboldt German Theme is the development of a Cottage Industry based on German Folk Arts. The Humboldt Folkart Co-op is a group of talented and dedicated artists who share their expertise through a variety of workshops: candlemaking, Bauernmalerei, dried flower arrangements, willow furniture, wheat weaving, scissor cutting, Easter egg decorating, baking, puppetry and more. The workshops are financially supported by the Saskatchewan German Council with funds provided through Sask. Lotteries. The folkart Co-op is flexible and is prepared to hold workshops in the community of your choice in Humboldt or in your town or city.

AN INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE

Folkarts based on the German heritage of many of its citizens are undergoing a revival in Humboldt, a central Saskatchewan town with a growing reputation as "A Little Bit of Germany in the Heart of the Prairies". The folkart rejuvenation is bringing both cultural and commercial benefits. A new and vibrant cottage industry has been created, and practitioners at all levels beginning, intermediate and advanced are thoroughly enjoying their personal encounters with a wide range of traditional disciplines.

The Humboldt Folkart Co-op is a group of talented and dedicated artists who share their expertise through a variety of workshops. The folkart instructors teach skills and knowledge and encourage creativity within an evolving tradition of techniques and motifs.

Today, the arts and craft specialties are extremely popular throughout Europe and North America. The Humboldt Folkart Co-op is proud to be a part of this movement and warmly invites your participation.
