German Jaramillo

German's international experience fence as an artist and illustrator has given him a unique insight into his art, something which is personified in both his realistic and abstract work.

German began his artistic career in 1980 in his native Colombia. In 1985 he received a Bachelor of Visual Arts degree from the University of Bogota. He later honed his talents through studies with master of oil painter Zhu Wei Min, in Beijing, China.

During the 1980's German's works were featured at various collective, public and solo exhibitions in Colombia, China and Hong Kong.

German came to Canada and settled in Regina in 1989. Soon after his arrival in the Queen City, he began sharing his talent with the community as an art instructor at the Neil Balkwill Civic Arts Centre. During the past two and a half years, German has also worked as a studio assistant with well known local artist Joe Fafard, while taking classes towards a Master of Fine Arts degree at the University of Regina.

During his four years in Saskatchewan, German has been involved in a number of art projects within and outside the province. Various pieces of his work are on display in the Duck Lake Fort Carlton area in the central part of the province. These include the murals "Creek Landscape" at the provincial museum at Fort Carlton and "The Prophet", a historical mural about famous Metis leader Louis Riel which can be seen in Duck Lake. German was also commissioned by the Metis Nation of Alberta to paint an oil portrait of Louis Riel.

German's work has also been featured in art exhibitions around Regina.

"The time I've spent on the prairies has given me the opportunity lo observe the different elements of life here first hand : the wheat fields and grain elevators, the machines the architecture, the animals and most importantly, the people, " says German Jaramillo.
