INDUSTRIAL HAMILTON: A TRAIL TO THE FUTURE
The Dominion Wire Manufacturing Company, Limited
The Dominion Wire Manufacturing Company was established in 1883 in Lachine, Quebec.
It began as the Dominion Barb Wire Company Limited in Montreal, 1872. As the Barb
Wire Company expanded, more space was needed. Its founders, James Cooper and Frederick
Fairman, pulled up roots and set down in Lachine. They also reincorporated the
company as the Dominion Wire Manufacturing Company in 1883.
In 1910, the company became part of the Steel Company of Canada.
