The Portuguese Book Store
Photo of the Portuguese Book Store which imported more than books and newspapers; it drew men to the corner of Nassau and Bellevue to listen to shortwave broadcasts of soccer games straight from home.  Mario Tomaz put speakers outside to make sure no one missed a play.
During the 1960s and 70s, the Portuguese Book Store imported more than books and newspapers. It drew men from all over the city and suburbs to Kensington to listen to shortwave broadcasts of soccer games directly from Portugal.
