Home Grade 5 Grade 10 Credits Feedback

Jason Josey and Elize Naude partnered toward the development of storylines and selection of images for this web site. The process of planning subtopics, gathering and organizing images and research material, and writing and editing the storylines involved a great deal of skilled work, but both employees proved equal to the task. Jason wrote most of the Grade 10 units, while Elize created most of the content for the Grade 5 section.

Keya White was responsible for taking the content provided by Jason and Elize and translating it into HTML code to create the web pages that make up the site. She also edited, enhanced and placed the images for the project.

Nathan Troxel, as Project Coordinator, oversaw the planning and production of the website, as well as the overall graphic design. Nathan is a partner in NT Solutions.

Todd Brown managed the budget, payroll and accounting for this website project. Todd is a partner in NT Solutions.

NT Solutions
NT Solutions
developed this website under contract to the BC Heritage Websites program. Founded in 1998, NT Solutions is a full-service website development firm based in Fernie, BC, with clients across North America.

The Fernie & District Historical Society (FDHS) provided office space for the web development team. Many of the web site’s images and references were taken from the Society’s extensive artifact and archive collection.

John Kinnear, Vice-president of the FDHS, provided access to The Crow’s Nest Pass Coal Company Archives in Fernie. The web development team also drew upon his extensive knowledge of coal mining history in BC.

Michael Pennock, Researcher with the FDHS, was frequently available to answer questions regarding modern mining methods and recent mining history. He passed on much of his knowledge acquired as a Geologist, particularly with Teck Corporation in Tumbler Ridge and Sparwood.

Ella Verkerk, Archivist with the Fernie and District Historical Society.

Randal Macnair, Principal of Macnair & Associates Heritage Consultants, provided leads to informants and other sources of information. He also helped edit the web site’s storylines.

Cindy Brunel, Public Relations Officer of Fording Coal Ltd., arranged a special tour of the Greenhills mine operations and edited storyline sections concerning the mine. All the staff at Greenhills were very helpful in explaining modern mining methods.

Robert Turner, Curator Emeritus at the Royal British Columbia Museum and author of numerous volumes on British Columbia history, offered helpful suggestions for the web site’s structure and storylines involving railroads. As Editor of Coal Dust in My Blood, Robert especially contributed his knowledge of Bill Johnstone’s life and times to the storyline on early mining methods.

Many of the images in the web site come from the BC Archives (BCARS) online catalogue. This easily searchable database was especially useful when looking for images from regions outside the Elk Valley.

The staff at the Fernie Heritage Library were especially helpful in locating and ordering research material from outside libraries.
