Inventory of the Lac La Biche Mission, 1864

The Oblates kept careful records of their possessions, so that their superiors always had a good idea of the resources at each mission. This inventory was taken on November 18, 1864.

Cattle: 11 working oxen, 3 three-year old oxen, 2 two-year old oxen, 1 yearling, 2 six-month ones, 7 milk cows, 1 two-year old, 4 yearling heifers, 1 six-month old one. Total: 32

Horses: 6 workhorses, 1 untrained four-year old, 3 mares, 3 two-year old fillies, 1 one yearling filly, 3 six-month old fillies, 1 stallion. Total: 18

Dogs: 12

Hogs: 16 big and little ones to overwinter

Cats: 2 at the rectory, 5 at the convent

2 kitchen stoves, two 2 and ½ foot stoves, 1 two-foot stove, 1 plow, 10 carts all a bit worn, 2 hoes, 1 shovel, 1 small water mill, 1 little hand mill, 2 cross cut saws, 1 circular saw, 1 harmonium, 5 axes, carpenters’ tools.

22 acres of fenced land, the sisters’ house of 50 by 30, the father’s house of 30 by 24, one stable 60 by 25, one barn of 36 by 25, two old houses.

Approximately 1,500 of fat, 1,000 lbs of pemmican, 25 toros, about 400 of dried meat, 200 bushels of potatoes, 30 bushels of wheat, about 30 bushels of barley, 4 bushels of peas, about 100 loads of hay.

10 scythes, 5 scythe handles, 7 sickles, 5 picks, 5 hoes, 8 ox sleighs with collars and harnesses.

1 copper chandelier and 1 wooden one for the house.

Sacristy: 6 altar chandeliers, silver plated and also the cross, 3 chalices, 1 monstrance, 1 censer, 1 fount, 2 more chandeliers for church, 1 cope, 9 surplices, 4 stoles, 4 cingula, 11 albs, 8 chasubles, 2 large missals, 2 small missals, 3 banners, 3 graduals, 2 rituals, 2 boxes of holy oil, 1 custode, 1 pix, 8 altar cloths, 4 table cloths, 26 corporals, 6 dozen purificators, 3 dozen of lavabos, 5 dozen amicts.

Personnel of the Mission: 2 fathers, one brother, 3 sisters, 2 marys, 3 young men.

Clothing:
Father Tissot: 12 shirts, 6 cassocks, one belt, 4 pairs of pants, 12 socks, 6 handkerchiefs.
Father Maissonneuve: 4 cassocks, 8 shirts, 2 belts, 4 pairs of pants, 8 socks, 6 handkerchiefs.
Brother Bowes: 5 bricks, 5 pairs of pants, 5 shirts, 8 socks, 6 handkerchiefs.
