Land/Water Archeology

Archeology During the 1988 campaign a unique situation occurred in that the level of the water was so shallow that part of the ship was actually exposed. Surprisingly this produced several problems. The team was forced to combine archeological techniques used on an underwater excavation with corresponding techniques from a land site. The similarities between land based archeology digs and underwater dives, such as the one undertaken to rediscover the P.S. Lady Sherbrooke, became clearer to the team during the 1988 season.

The images presented below are from that 1988 diving season. They represent what added problems faced the team as they worked in wet mud, shallow water, and slightly deeper water to uncover additional areas of the Lady Sherbrooke.
