Artefacts - Coal and Brick

Fragments of coal and brick, from the area near the coal furnace used to fuel the engine of the vessel, were recovered from the site of the P.S. Lady Sherbrooke. The following images show a sampling of the pieces of coal and slag (burnt coal) recovered. Also located in the same area were small pieces of brick, many of which showed traces of burning on one side. As brick protected the wooden parts of the boat from the flames of the fire it was used in the area surrounding the furnace.
