Artefacts - Rigging

Artefacts While the P.S. Lady Sherbrooke was primarily powered by a steam engine allowances for periods of engine failure were made. Therefore examples of rigging for sails were discovered on the wreck. As well, rigging for the loading and off loading of freight with a boom was found. The size of the objects, such as the dead eye, and various blocks and tackles, reminds us of a period before machinery was capable of loading transport vessels and reliance was place on basic physics to life heavy objects for transport.

While most of the rope that accompanied the rigging was of hemp (a fibrous material) some near the engine was from wire rope.
