Artefacts - Bottles
One of the groupings of artefacts recovered from the P.S. Lady Sherbrooke was the bottles. Since bottles continue to be an object used today the size, shape, and color of these artefacts provides a clear indication of a difference between the time of the Lady Sherbrooke and the present (note first image which compares a recent bottle to an earlier one as recovered from the site).
While few complete bottles were found the fragments, as seen below, give an idea of how bottles dating from the nineteenth century were of inconsistent sizes and shapes. Molds, which today provide similar sized and shaped bottles, were not yet used. Bottles would have been used both for the transport of liquids as well as storage for refreshments consumed on board during the journey between Québec and Montréal.
