Isaac Johnson and the P.S. Lady SherbrookeIsaac Johnson was the master shipbuilder who oversaw the production of many of the Molson steamboats. He worked for the Logan shipyard, which was next door to the Molson brewery. Although we do not have much information on the man himself, contracts from that period tell us that he was much in demand during a time when shipbuilding was a booming industry in Montréal. More steamships were built in Montréal than anywhere else in Canada during the first part of the nineteenth century. Isaac Johnson,a master craftsman who could adapt traditional ship construction to the new steam technology, played a very important role in the success of the Molson steamship line. |
