To bring the objects found at the underwater site of the P.S. Lady Sherbrooke to the surface a basic pumping system was developed. The materials used in the construction of the pump included objects not immediately recognizable as belonging on an archeological site. Professional divers directed tubes that literally vacuumed the floor of the wreck.
Smaller artefacts were brought to the surface with the thousands of gallons of water that were pumped through the screens. Larger objects, such as pieces of wood or cast iron, were carried to the surface by the divers. Everything was carefully inspected, drawn, and catalogued by the team of researchers allowing for a better understanding of the design of the vessel.
The various tools used in the excavation of this site enabled an accurate reconstruction of the P.S. Lady Sherbrooke.
