"Mackie" McIntyre Cryderman (1900-1969) was born at Dutton, Ontario and died at London, Ontario. She attended the local high school and graduated from the London Normal School teaching at the elementary level for several years. Later she studied art with Franz Johnston in Winnipeg, at the Ontario College of Art and took several courses at Detroit, Michigan. She was appointed the first head of London's newly organized vocational art department of H. B. Beal Technical School in 1927 and remained in that capacity until 1962. She later served on the Board of Governors of Fanshawe College and was key to the development of its Division of Applied Arts. Cryderman was a multi-talented individual not only interested in painting in oil and watercolour but print making, jewelry design, metalwork and sculpture. A very capable organizer who drew an excellent group of teachers about her, she was also involved with the Canadian Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers, the Western Art League and the new Art Museum.
