Julian Ruggles Seavey

Julian Ruggles Seavey (1857-1940) was born in Boston, Massachusetts and died in Hamilton, Ontario. His art studies began in Paris, Rome and Germany. He emigrated to Canada in 1884, lived in London for about 10 years while art director at Hellmuth Ladies College and a teacher at Alma College. Later he relocated to Hamilton and was head of the art department at the normal school and taught summer classes at the University of Toronto. Seavey's style is academic and he worked in oil, pastel and watercolour with floral, illustrative, landscape and "trompe l'oeil" subjects.
