The Morons
by Frances Fisher, an original member

When the Lions Club was formed, they had a dinner meeting twice a month. Several of the ladies whose husbands belonged to the club, decided it would be nice for us to get together for a dinner, at least once a month.

The first dinner was held at Kit Fulton's home. She served a cocktail, someone brought a meat dish, another a salad, and another the desert. The others were guests. As the months went on we took turns hosting the group, so that the time of the summer holidays each of us had entertained the group.

Some time later, the dinner was at my home. Mrs. Boyle had been visiting her sister in the States and came home with a smart new hat, which she wore to the party. We all admired it and each modelled it. I had just purchased a new pair of dress slippers, so we all tried them on too. When the party was ending my husband George, Ted Boyle and Albert Murphy came in. They too posed, but just with the hat. We were enjoying this nonsense so much that Ted said, "You act like a bunch of Morons!" So Morons we became!

That was all about 35 years ago and though the group has changed through the years, we are still meeting as regularly as we can, eating and enjoying each others company.

Someone asked us if we did a lot of gossiping. Our answer was a definite "No! We are too busy laughing and discussing our own goings on!"
