Lumby Hotel

After the 1932 fire the property known as the Jackson Hotel stayed empty for three years. Harold H. Weeks of Vancouver witnessed the sale of the property from Walter and Marie Jackson to "Lumby Hotel Ltd." on the 17th of August 1935 and Harry Weeks built the new hotel.

Sometime between 1936 to 1948 Otto and Emma Schnell bought the hotel. In 1948 Anthony Paradis bought the hotel and it remained named the Lumby Hotel. Paradis extended the building out the back.

On June 12, 1950 Michael Lemiski bought the hotel and Bill Borgens was the manager, living in the back with his family in the living quarters that had been built on. On December 12, 1950 Lemiski changed the name to Lumby Holdings Ltd.

Mike Lemiski sold the hotel to Francis Kenneth Garyk on January 19, 1955, which brought another name change, back to Lumby Hotel Ltd. January 17, 1957 saw Mike Lemiski as treasurer and Isabel Lemiski as president, when they purchased the property back under the name of Lumby Hotel (1957) Ltd.

The hotel once again changed hands on September 21, 1960 when it was bought by Art Hutt and Bob Balance. In June of 1961 it was sold to Bill MacLennan and Garth Tubman. Bill MacLennan sold the hotel to Stolliker & Assoc. in 1974. Then in 1975 Scott Pringle and Allen Sulz bought the hotel and in 1976 rebuilt and put on a new roof.

In 1979 Al Sulz sold his share to Strang and Tuffnel, who then became Scott's partners. In 1981 Mr. and Mrs Gordon Blackwell and Anne Vogel bought the business from Pringle, Tuffnel and Strang as "Sunset West Hotel Ltd." In 1982 Pringle, Tuffnel and Strang, along with Scott's brother, Dr. Donald Pringle, repurchased the Lumby Hotel. In 1986 Tuffnel and Stang sold their share to the Pringle brothers under Lumby Enterprises Ltd.

During this time Kari Scott had been managing the Ramshorn Pub. In September 1990 Kari became a full partner with Scott and she is now manager of the Lumby Hotel, Ramshorn Pub, Sportsman Cafe and the Antlers Cold Beer and Wine Store which had been built in May 1990.
