There is little information on the John Bessette family. John was born in St. Etienne, Quebec in 1851. His family was a humble one and were often seen traveling for work. John came to White Valley in 1882 from Connecticut apparently leaving his family in the east.

He first purchased a farm at Blue Springs, but did not stay on it for long. The farm was sold and John moved to the Okanagan Mission. The next year he came back an preempted lot 163 and was soon followed by his family joining him in 1884.

When the ranch was sold to Bill Reid, Helene moved to Vernon where she operated a boarding house. She died there October 31st, 1941. John moved the LeFrancois house and passed away June 8th, 1931.
