Josephine Bessette

BIRTH:  Unknown
DEATH:  Unknown

  • Among the first settlers in Lumby.
  • Was president of Catholic Womens League.

Mr. and Mrs. Bessette raised eight children of ten born to them and had twenty eight grand children. She was among the first settlers to come to the White Valley area. Josephine was raised on a ranch along with eight other brothers and sisters. She remembers walking three miles to school where Mr. Tom Norris was the teacher. She and Nap were married in 1900.

She and Nap had a pretty full schedule with the family alone but there were other activities. Mrs. Bessette was the president of the Catholic Womens League and a member of the Lumby Womens Institute. When Nap died Mrs. Bessette slowed down a lot. She was a very happy woman and loved to brighten the day of her family members.
