Joe came to Canada from Brittany when he was eight in 1907 with his family. When they arrived in Canada they stayed in Montreal for four days then moved to Sudbury for three months before they headed to Revelstoke. The family then moved to Lumby in 1909.

In 1921 he worked for forestry at Sugar Lake. They were making trail from Sugar Lake to Upper River in case of fire. He then went to work for Oscar LeFrancois making poles in the Bardolph Lake area. In June, 1929 his daughter Rhea was born. Joe sold his house in 1970 and built the house in Lumby where they are still living. He says he enjoys his retirement, he bowls, plays cards, looks after the yard and has hooked six rugs. He says that time passes quickly.
