John Gregory Heighway

BIRTH:  Unknown
DEATH:  1957 (Vernon, BC)

Jack Heighway was born in London, Ontario, in 1888. He was a school mate of Guy Lombardo, a well known musician and a band leader. Jack came west to Lumby to work for Mr. Megaw in the general store on the corner of Shuswap Avenue and Vernon Street. Today, this building is known as the Family Café.

Apparently, Jack knew Will Shields in Ontario. In 1908 Jack returned to London where he worked for some years in a munitions factory. In 1910, once again, Jack returned to Lumby to Lumby to work for Will.

Jack was always known as a generous person. He always supplied equipment for children's activities and sports. His personal sporting interests were confined to fishing, which he loved so much. Eventually Jack retired in 1938 and moved to Vernon. His property was sold to Jim Inglis. He passed away in the Vernon Hospital after a lengthy illness in 1957.
