  • He died in February 1970.

George Laviolette was originally from Charlo, New Brunswick. He came to Lumby in 1925 with his wife, the former Jean Granfors; whom he married in Vancouver in June of 1923. Their infant son Stan, was born in March of 1924.

The Laviolette's farm, bordered by Creighton Valley Rd. and cut by Highway 6 soon boasted a fine home, built by George's father. George was involved in logging here, as well as farming. At the coast George had the first steam donkey used on a logging operation.

Jean Laviolette died in May of 1931. George was buried in the Lumby cemetery beside her when he died in February 1970. Recently, son Stan bought back part of the family farm on the hill below the Golf course. Stan's early memories of Lumby was the "School Bus", a rickety wagon irreverently called "the chicken coop". In winter it was a sleigh.
