Joseph LeBlanc Sr.

DEATH:  1983 (?)

  • Moved to Vernon in 1890 from St. Anicet.
  • Fifth child was the first white child to be born in Lavington.


Joseph LeBlanc Sr. was born in St. Anicet, Quebec in1854. He married Elmire Quesnel while still living in Quebec. They moved to BC in1890 and then into Lavington four months later. While in Lavington their fifth child was born, This was Anicet who was the first born in Lavington and the first child to be baptized in a Catholic Church by a priest who came to Lumby once a month, from Kamloops.

They located their homestead at the bottom of Blue Springs Hill by the Rawlings Lake Road turn-off. Joseph Sr. cleared his land with a single bitted axe and a cross-cut saw. He was said to be one of the best axe men around.

In 1938 Joseph LeBlanc Sr. passed away at age eighty-four. He was sadly missed by all his family and friends.
