George and Emma Leger

BIRTH:  Unknown
DEATH:  June 23, 1938

George came to Lumby from St. John, New Brunswick in 1890. On October 9, 1893 he preempted three hundred and twenty acres in Creighton Valley area. He strived for a Crown Grant, but never did receive it.

George was married to Emma Bessette on July 30, 1895. Their first home was on the Faulkner Ranch and it was there that their first daughter was born, Eva. Since George felt strongly about being the owner of his own land, he applied for a section that belonged to the Schweb's (lot 437) along Highway Six. Their first home on the land was a small cabin, which ended up being rented to Pierre DeLorme.

The Leger couple were hard workers. Emma always had the house clean, and the yard well kept. George's farming consisted mostly of raising hay, which was taken into Vernon. George also hauled logs to Bessette's sawmill from LeBlanc's farm. This lumber was used to build a church. Emma also assisted while the church was being built.

Emma's death occured on October of 1925 and was buried in the Lumby cemetery in the Bessette plot. Eventually, George passed away as well on June 23, 1938.
