BIRTH:  Unknown
DEATH:  Unknown

  • Arived in White Valley around 1889.
  • Took over the position of postmaster at Seed's in 1894.
  • Proposed to built a cheese factory.

Samuel came to White Valley around 1889 with his wife, four daughters and son. He was employed at Seed's store as a clerk. His five children attended the first school with Mr. Norris as a teacher. On October 1st, 1894 Sam took up a job as postmaster at seed's store which he held until 1897. In June of 1895 he, along with three others, proposed to build a cheese factory. There were about three hundred milking cows in a radius of about three miles. No sooner had they started the plans, Manitoba started shipping butter and cheese to the Okanagan. Their rates were cheaper than that of the local farmers so the farmers gave up.

By this time the McIlvanie girls were teenage beauties and Sam decided he had better move out of Lumby as he did not want them to be married to "a French Catholic". They moved to Vernon in 1897.
