Mr. and Mrs. William Pierce and sons Ernest and Jack, arrived in the Okanagan from the Arrow Lakes in 1920. Bill worked with his team of horses doing various jobs. With the coming of the railroad, he ran a daily service unloading freight to the store and around the community. This freight consisted of such things as flour, sugar, salt and other commodities which arrived by carload in those days.

Ernie and Jack worked at various jobs, but mostly with trucks in the Vernon area in summer. In 1922 Henry Sigalet Co. started a pole business and purchased a Federal Truck and trailer for hauling poles. Jack and Ernie took over hauling the logs. This became quite an extensive line of work.

Jack remained with H. Sigalet until 1940, in all aspects of the pole business. In 1948, Jack opened up a Plumbing Business. 1930 rolled around, Jack married Emma Henschke of Vernon. They had three children: Doreen of Kamloops, Joan, and Murray.
