  • Came to Lumby in 1925.


In October 1925, after the death of their mother, the three youngest children of Rene and Angelina Potrie of Hupel, came to live with relatives and friends in Lumby. Angelina was very young and stayed with her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Gallon. Ernest, the youngest Potrie boy, at two years of age, stayed with Mrs. Ernest Alger at their farm on Hurt Road. Bernadette, the nine month old baby of the family, stayed with the Fallingham's.

Angelina returned home when she reached the age of six, Ernest was at the age of four and a half. Bernadette went to foster home in Vancouver, to a fine couple by the name of Mr. and Mrs. William Foston.

In 1941-1942, Angelina came back to Lumby and worked at the Lumby Hotel Cafˇ. She was a very dear friend of the late Philip Douglas Cleal of Mabel Lake who was killed in action. She is now Mrs. James Holmes of Langley and they have five children and one grandchild. Ernest is on the home place at Hupel, seventeen miles east of Enderby. He's married and has two sons, and a grandchild.

The other four Potries are all married and live in the North Okanagan.
