But... Where is Melfort?
Map of Canada Map of Saskatchewan Map of Carrot River Valley
Now that you have an idea of where Melfort is, we will introduce you to some of its history. This virtual museum will cover the years 1880 to 1920, when the first white settlers arrived in this area. The original townsite of Melfort was called Stoney Creek Settlement and at that time was still part of the Northwest Territories. Since those early days, the population of Melfort has increased to nearly 6,000 people. The communities surrounding Melfort have also grown over the years. The Rural Municipalities of Flett's Springs, Kinistino, Star City, and Willow Creek have a population of over 2,600 people. These Rural Municipalities have always been an important part of Melfort's growth and development. Together they create a history that deserves to be recognized.
