There are a few families who are credited as being the very first to settle in the Melfort area. These pioneers were the first to break the land, build houses, and begin farming in a promising but unsure land. When the first settlers arrived there were no roads, only trails, and it took the majority of a week to go to Prince Albert for supplies.
