Dr. T.C. Spence
Dr. Thomas Charles Spence moved from Ontario to North Eastern Saskatchewan in 1892. From Prince Albert, in 1906, he moved to the Carrot River Valley to become the first medical doctor to settle in the district of Melfort.
A few years prior to his retirement, Dr. Spence showed an active interest in civic affairs. He ran for mayor of Melfort, was elected by acclamation, and served in office from 1912 to 1913. He also campaigned as a conservative candidate in a Federal Election against the late Senator Davis, but was unsuccessful.
Although Dr. Spence retired from practicing medicine in 1914, he remained a very active citizen of Melfort in the field of politics, and occupied the position of Local Customs Officer.
