MEDIA RELEASE Mercer Union A Centre for Contemporary Visual Art is pleased to present the first solo exhibition of an installation by Toronto artist Kartz Ucci. Kartz Ucci's lnstallations deal with the experience of belng Italian-Canadian, of maintaining two identities, two cultures and two languages in a predominantly anglo environment. Ucci explores practices that subvert feminine power and position women ln a commodity exchange, such as the dowry system. Drawing upon a rich cultural tradition which embraces dreams, premonitions and superstitions she creates haunting work that transcends generation or culture. Kartz Ucci is a recent graduate of York University. Her set designs have appeared ln productions by the York Unlversity Theatre Department and Company Of Sirens. |
