MEDIA RELEASE IRIMI "Am I gonna die", is a new installation by Toby MacLennan. Drawing upon experiences arising from encounters with illness and death, MacLennan boldly and poetically conflates the feelings of loss and longing to nurture personal growth through self-awareness. Originally from the United States, Toby MacLennan now makes her home in Ontario and teaches in New Jersey. A performance artist since the late 1960s, MacLennan's films and installations have been presented in solo and group exhibitions in Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Yancouver, New York, Chicago, and Paris. Her work was most recently seen in Toronto in the 1989 exhibition Enchantment/Disturbnce at The Power Plant. Toby MacLennan will be attending the opening reception and will speak about her work. A published interview with the artist, conducted by Avis Lang, is available. |
