    Mercer Union is pleased to present the installation, Casting Light, Beyond a Shadow of a Doubt by Toronto artist, Michael Buchanan.

    Incorporating wire structures, backlit images and projected lights, Buchanan's installation recreates for the viewer the experience of standing before the Aurora Borealis. Concerned with the displacement and trivialisation of authentic experience by technologies constructed to simulate phenomenological and physiological experiences, Buchanan's work questions our perception of wonderment and enchantment arising from the witnessing of natural phenomenon..

    Michael Buchanan has participated in the group exhibitions, Spontaneous Combustion (1989) and Real, Authentic, Genuine (1991). This is his first solo exhibition.
