"The house has no less than ten fireplaces, some of them decorated with onyx, marble, rare woods or hand-painted tiles. The fireplace in the main entrance hall is of yellow Siena marble, with ornamentation in Cuban mahogany. The fireplace in the main room is capped by a mantle with the original gas lamps. In Stephen's bedroom, the fireplace is decorated with hand-painted tiles. The most remarkable is in the Concordia Room. The fireplace is of sculpted white Italian onyx and was exhibited at the World's Fair in Chicago in 1893. It measures eight feet tall and four and a half feet deep...."
