"From the cliff overlooking the sea, after a fairly level space of about 700 feet in depth, the ground falls away irregularly, now gently, now sharply, thus offering scope for development on several levels, until it takes a rather precipitous descent of about 30 feet to a rapid running brook which wends its ways twisting and turning in delightful curves right through the entire demense until it joins the Metis river at the most southerly point of the gardens. On the further side of the brook the ground rises again, though not so steeply or so irregularly." Elsie Reford, "Lilies at Estevan Lodge, Grand Metis, Province of Quebec, Canada", 1939 |
