"Here a week ago yesterday. Just leading a happy drifting existence, riding, reading, and fishing and loafing about with Sweetheart. River so very low and the weather so warm that there is little sport but Saturday I got a nice 23 lb salmon in the Mill Pool and tonight a 30 lb one in Sir Donald's. He played splendidly. Finished 1 Vol. Guizot, Louis XIII and Louis XIV and have begun now Barker's Netherlands of the same period. Read up the river while waiting for the sun to get off the pool Corneille's Cid and finished it tonight. Très beau. Glorious weather. Gorgeous sunset."
