The enjoyment Henry and Agnes Twidle took from
their home and garden is evident in Henry’s photographs. Although Henry
and Agnes had no descendants and little is known of their personal lives, the
pictures offer glimpses of their lifestyle and clues to their personalities.
The photos show the progression of the garden from a stump-filled clearing to a
large area full of plants and flowers. The garden was obviously Agnes’ pride and joy and
she undoubtedly worked hard at keeping it healthy and beautiful. Henry’s
appreciation of the garden and the couple’s love of the outdoors is also reflected
in the photographs.
