Joseph Napoleon Kakeeway

Rifleman, Napoleon Kakeeway returned to civilian life after he received an Honourable Discharge, on December 22, 1944. For this Theatres of Service in Canada, Britain and Northwest Europe he was awarded the 1939-45 Star, France and Germany Star, the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp and the War Medal 1939-45.

For the remainder of his short life, Napoleon was highly regarded for his expertise as a guide, trapper, commercial fisherman and for his devotion to his wife Madeline and their children. The formidable, Whitefish Bay Rangers, one the most recognized Native hockey teams from the area, was organized originally by the late, Napoleon Kakeeway. His daughters Marcella and Cecilia years later cheered on their brothers Stewart, Kenny and Gabriel as they carried on the tradition as Whitefish Bays Rangers.
