The Fort Severn is located within the boundaries of the 1929-1930 Adhesion to the James Bay Treaty of 1905-Treaty No.9.
Fort Severn surrendered its original Reserve land and relocated to its present site in 1973.  Full Reserve status was achieved on January 11, 1980.  Fort Severn is situated on the coast of Hudson's Bay.  It is the most northerly community in Northwestern Ontario.

Veterans that came from Fort Severn, Peawanuck (Winisk), and smaller communities are listed as being from Moose Factory.  Moose Factory was the closest enlistment point.
