About This Collection

The Project

Over the years, shunpiking Magazine has published feature sections on aspects of Nova Scotia's natural heritage. The unique value of this museum-quality collection is that it contains original information written for a target audience that has not previously been well-addressed. The material is informative as well as fascinating, and its language speaks readily to students and to the general public. Useful to tourists, environmental groups, high school students, amateur conservationists, naturalists and scientists, this resource has also helped people to participate in the conservation and resource-management efforts of organizations like the Department of the Environment and the Nova Scotia Museum of Natural History. Among other things, we expect this site to be used:

This collection includes informative and beautiful imagery which reflects on Nova Scotia's rich heritage. It compliments work already done and collections already digitized by the Nova Scotia Museum of Natural History.

The Team

A collaboration among the Nova Scotia Museum of Natural History, shunpiking Magazine and Pleiades Consulting, the production of this site took place over three months and involved the full-time efforts of three young people. These were DalTech student Andrew Balser, Carleton student Matthew R. MacIntyre and Pleiades president Patrick Edwards-Daugherty. The content material was donated for this purpose, and we are grateful for the support of its custodians. We are pleased also to acknowledge the cooperation of Don Black, secretary of the Caretakers of the Environment, Debra Burleson, director of the Nova Scotia Museum of Natural History, and Tony Seed, editor of shunpiking Magazine.
