Television was such a novelty when it was first introduced to Vancouver that TV stores left the sets on in their windows. Gord Cousins, who blew glass at Neon Products in the 1950s, recalls the night he and fellow workers headed out to watch the Joe Louis prize fight after work. They drove out East Hastings to Ray TV, hoping to watch the first live telecast of a fight through the shop window. But reception was lousy that night. Nevertheless, TV was such a novelty that they happily stood on the sidewalk and watched the "snow" for half an hour.
