Great and Little St. Lawrence harbours are inlets of Placentia Bay. The community of St. Lawrence is located around Great St. Lawrence Harbour. Tradition has it that it was named by mariner Richard Clarke who accompanied Sir Humphrey Gilbert on his voyage to Newfoundland in 1583.
