HAROLD BRAITHWAITE  HAROLD BRAITHWAITE

Harold Brathwaite received his elementary and secondary education in Barbados, where he was born. His undergraduate education took him to Jamaica and France, and he completed his MA degree at McMaster University in 1969.

Harold joined the Toronto Board of Education in Jan. 1984 as Superintendent for French Language Schools and subsequently held the positions of Superintendent of the East Family of Secondary Schools and Coordinating Superintendent of Secondary Schools. He was appointed Associate Director of Education - Human Resources in Sept. 1991 and took on the added responsibilities of Program in Sept., 1993. Harold was promoted to the position of Director of Education for the Peel Board of Education effective Feb. 1994. He has been a member of the Board of Governors of the Ontario Institute of Studies in Education since Sept. 1993

Harold has received a number of awards for his contribution to the Community and to education. Among these are: Award of Merit from the Haitian Association of Metropolitan Toronto in 1987, Distinguished Alumnus Award, McMaster University in 1992, the 1992 Outstanding Alumnus Award, UWI. Toronto Chapter and he was the recipient of the 1995 Canadian Black Achievement award-Education in Feb.
