SENATOR ANNE COOLS: Canada's first Black senator
Anne C. Cools was born in Barbados West Indies to Rosetta Gordon Miller and Lucius Unique Cools. She received her education at the Montessori School of the Ursuline Convent and Queen's College in Barbados, as well as Thomas D'Arcy-McGee High School and McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. Ms. Cools obtained a BA in Social Sciences, with majors in Sociology and Psychology.
On Jan. 16, 1984 Anne Cools made history when she was appointed to The Senate of Canada. Senator Cools, who became Canada's first and presently only Black Senator, was appointed by the governor-general on the recommendation of the Prime Minister.
