The Victoria Memorial Gardens (Toronto, Ontario)
The Victoria Memorial Gardens (Toronto, Ontario) - This is a cemetery which is now more of a park. The headstones of those who were buried were so neglected and weathered that the remaining stones were incorporated into a monument in the centre of the park. The people who are buried there are Canadian soldiers from the war of 1812. Some of the soldiers buried there are Black and Native Indians. The first person buried there was Katherine Simcoe, the daughter of John Graves Simcoe, the first Lieutenant Governor of Ontario. Simcoe, attempted to end slavery in this area. |
